Concerning Our Two Bodies
By John R. Gavazzoni

The body, begotten, and the body, created; the former providing the substance for the latter. The body, begotten, is incorruptible; the body, created (and thus as created) suffers the same subjugation to futility as the whole of creation - all of it yearning to come home to its/His/our body of Primal Origin (Barth) - and it is destined, by Jesus' death and resurrection, to be swallowed up by the incorruptible, which, in the swallowing up, puts on incorruption, as Paul explained. Like the light which is within the midst of the darkness comes forth from out of the midst of darkness, swallowing up the darkness in "the light of life," incorruption and incorruptibility, lie within the depths of corruption and corruptibility.

Though the body, begotten, is incorruptible, for its/His Seed remaineth in him (the core essence of that body is immune to corruptibility), nevertheless it can be touched by, and has/does bear corruptibility laid upon Him on our behalf, but never, as it were, entering into it/Him as native to it/Him. "We have not a High Priest who cannot be touched by the feelings of our infirmity," "....who bore our sins in His own body on the tree."

To borrow from Thomas Jefferson, I hold this truth to be self-evident, that the glory of the Father that raised Jesus from the dead, lay within that body of death as He lay in the tomb. Concerning our union with Christ in His death and resurrection, as it pertains to our corporality, Paul wrote:

"So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption; It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power; It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body."

Note, of great importance, that in each description, the "it" that is sown, is the "it" that is raised. The spiritual body that is raised is the natural body that is sown....only changed, transformed. In a sense two bodies, but in a deeper sense, the two are one body. God throws away nothing of His creation. Nothing is lost. "Behold, I make all things new." Precisely in the Greek, it is, "....I am making all things new." All that is made new in/by Christ, is made new by REnewal. The old man who was crucified with Christ, is raised to newness of life by His resurrection. Oh, what a mighty resurrection. "Oh death, where is thy sting, oh grave, where is thy victory."

Even should a body be completely obliterated, blown into minute particles, dissolved; even reduced to a gaseous state, still our unique DNA is preserved to be gathered together unto newness of life with Christ.

That which is within, is that which we put on. Paul wrote to put on Christ....the Christ who indwells us. Again, the principle, from the inside out always. Scripture, on this subject, speaks in the language of paradox, i.e., that which is above is within. That which is above lies deep within that which is below. This is why being in Christ is the ground of Christ being in us, for it being necessary that the Christ who indwells us within, be the transcendent Christ who is our Above-Source. What is above, supplies that which is below, from within that which is below.
