The Mind of Christ
By John Gavazzoni

Consciousness-raising has become, in my opinion, a quest-for-the-deeper-life fad. If you're writing and/or preaching about raising your consciousness, you're "in." You're cool in the world of devotional evangelism. Analogically speaking, when you walk in the room bedecked in the latest consciousness-raising buzz words and buzz phrases, everyone knows you know where it's at. You're a walking model who's easily at home on the Rodeo Drive of cutting-edge metaphysics.

I recognize the soul-excitement that's at the heart of this "movement." It's "Pass the ammunition, full steam ahead, damn the torpedoes, heaven here we come" excitement. While I'm resorting to modern colloquialisms, I want to shout, "hold the horses, I'm hearing precious little about how Christ thinks! Isn't that our real subject here? At least, it's my subject, but I'm not sure it's yours."

In biblical language, the subject is, and therefore should be for us, repentance, i.e., a change of mind involving a turning of the heart to the Lord. It's the renewing of the mind which simply is the continuation of repentance by that process which gradually turns our hearts more accurately toward the Lord until we're seeing "the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."

THERE we're caught up in the Spirit to commune with God in joint-participation with Christ, and there, we're GIVEN to know the Father as Jesus knows Him, and by the anointing that we have from Him, and which is Him.

Suffer me to raise some negative questions: Has the eternal Son of God ever, whether within the timelessness of God's I AM Being, or during His time (which is continuing) within the ages, or as Jesus, now seated at the right hand of the Majesty on High, ever thought such thoughts as:

Considering the importance of how I think in my relationship to my Father, I realize that, while I must get my right thinking from Him, that is, right thinking, true consciousness, comes from Him, nevertheless He's leaving it up to me to get my thinking straight, in that Father depends upon me to allow Him to infuse me with His thinking." And:

I sure wish everyone would realize that its thinking right that makes me the Son of God. Some seem to think that it's because I'm God's Son that I think right. Those latter folks need their consciousness raised. Or:

Being the Son of God is most basically a matter of a relationship with True Consciousness, with the Great Mind above which is waiting for us get our heads aligned with IT. I sure wish they'd get with IT." Or along the same line:

Too few people realize that the only difference between me and all the other sons of God, is that I've mastered this consciousness-raising stuff first. That's the only sense in which I'm greater than they. And while I'm on this theme, it's time they got beyond that 'Jesus is Lord' stuff; it's so yesterday. Thinking of me as their Lord belongs to a feudalism mentality. Can't I just be their model for great consciousness?"

Well, dear readers, I could go on ad infinitum, ad nauseum, but I've released my burden above. Jesus is Lord. He's my life, and in that life is His mind. I have Him, therefore I have His mind. Test the spirits brethren for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
